USC announced Thursday that families with an annual income of $80,000 or less can attend the private university tuition-free, starting with students entering their first year this fall.Furthermore, owning a home will no longer be considered when determining a student's financial need, the school said in the announcement."We're opening the door wider to make a USC education possible for talented students from all walks of life," said President Carol Folt in a statement.

Gee that would have been nice when I went to college. Why are you allowing these young people to get a leg up on those of us who are in the middle of our careers & we'll end up having paid for our education and our unsecured retirement? We're screwed & kids get off scot-free.

That is wonderful. This is what we had in Australia in 1980 thanks to our PM Gough Whitlam. I was fortunate enough to obtain my Hons degree then, as a single mother come out of extreme poverty, free. We cannot underestimate how wonderful a gift like free education is to the poor.
