Facing possible crippling tariffs, many in Mexico support President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's measured response.

June 5, 2019

“We do not want conflict, a war. Let us avoid that,” said Gilberto Lozoya, a 26-year-old in the northern city of Nuevo Laredo, across the border from Laredo, Texas, who works for a factory that exports boilers for U.S. brands like Whirlpool. A poll tracking his day-to-day popularity saw it rise about four points from Trump’s announcement May 27 to nearly two-thirds approval as of Tuesday. And on Sunday, voters handed López Obrador’s Morena party the governorships in two states with significant trade ties to the United States — Puebla, home to a Volkswagen plant, and Baja California, which borders California and is dotted with manufacturing and assembly plants known as “maquiladoras.

“He has to be very, very tough, or rather very ‘firm’ is the word, in saying Mexico cannot tolerate commercial blackmail being linked to immigration policy,” Morales said, adding that he sees a good chance the tariffs won’t happen because the outcry from U.S. business interests would be too great.

Trump will sink everyone, That is the plan. That's always been the plan. To sink America. Exactly as Putin has instructed. That's why he's in the Oval. He sold his soul -- and America -- for his brand. GOP empowered him. RideOrDie has its consequences. LockThemAllUp

Doesn't this just mean mexico gets more money? Does anyone think Americans are gonna stop spending?

If U.S is Mexico's ally it should stop arming and funding the cartels.

Mexico should probably improve her trade ties with other countries too. Its export market seems too much dependent on US.

If Mexico is our ally, then this fraise should mean something.. 'Friends don't take advantage of friends' If Mexico was our ally, they should play their part in helping to keep the migrants from reaching our border.

I hope he does something and soon. Whatever the cost of these tariffs, it will be nothing compared to the hundreds of billions of dollars illegal immigration costs the American taxpayer each year.

They better lock that border up nice and tight...personally I'd love to see them eat a 25% tariff for a year or two...no I don't believe it will hurt the US economy one tiny bit.

Paying for the wall is going to look like a bargain compared to tarrifs

Blood in blood out

how much will my bud go up, yo? asking for a friend

And we're falling down the sinkhole. No thanks to Dump

Private border wall construction halts after New Mexico town protestsSunland Park, New Mexico, on Tuesday ordered We Build the Wall to stop erecting the steel barrier on private land in an area that the group calls 'ground zero for illegal drugs, migrants and human sex slaves coming across.' Sunland Park is located in the southeast corner of New Mexico, on the That group has it wrong. The wall we voted for in 2016 was going to be funded by Mexico not American tax payers. Not the townsfolk, the elites in charge. Our would-be rulers are completely opposed to border security, and would prefer we be invaded by 100,000+ illegal aliens each month. It wasn't the town who protested. It was the mayor. The people living there didn't protest. Irresponsible journalism.
