U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Monday outlined a federal spending-cut plan being sought by his fellow Republicans with ideas already floated and rejected by Democrats, and warning that these conditions must be attached to an urgently needed increase in the government's debt ceiling.

His speech comes as the federal government ticks closer to the moment sometime this summer when it will no longer be able to meet its financial obligations.

But he added that "a no-strings attached debt limit increase will not pass" the House. He added that he will seek to roll back federal spending on many programs to fiscal 2022 levels, followed by spending growth of only 1% each year over the next decade. Before the speech, White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said, "There is one responsible solution to the debt limit: addressing it promptly, without brinksmanship or hostage taking - as Republicans did three times in the last administration.""A speech isn’t a plan," Bates said.

Is that what he did the three times under Trump he voted to raise the debt ceiling?

so kevin is basically saying that we wont pay our bills ?he surely wants to crash the markets, how is the street ok with this, why do you guys keep that tax cuts on corporations if you cant afford , same is with india, corporate taxes sitting ok at 25%,common guys getting screwed

Trump is the one that raised the debt so damn high to begin with!!!! Biden is bring it down

The war budget seems rife with corruption. Maybe start the cuts there.

McCarthyism v2.0z. STILLSHAMELESS

Traitor McCarthy.... attacking the already struggling. McCarthy said he will seek to toughen eligibility requirements for certain federal social safety net programs. Why not cut DOD spending? The GQP sucks.

They can basically write any budget they want...but they don't. Political Grandstanding

This is a very unserious man. He’s blowing smoke. McCarthyIsAFool

Right wing Konservative Republikons want to cut Social Security and Medicare so they can give the rich people more tax cuts.

Well someone is at least doing something about the current debt limit! We can't keep spending money like it grows on trees. What do we have to show for it? Massive social programs that keep rising faster than the historic inflation this year!

Dollars to donuts, there won't be any budget cuts proposed for the military even though that is one of the largest yearly expenditures and we know there is massive waste in spending.

SpeakerMcCarthy stop representing top 1% of Americans! Stop sabotaging America! The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office last month laid out a range of options to address the debt & showed that higher tax collections would have significantly more impact than spending cuts.

McCarthy would cut oxygen out of the atmosphere, if it effected the so called budget!🫣🫠🇺🇸

What cuts? SpeakerMcCarthy doesn't detail his budget proposal.

Just leave Social Security and Medicare alone!
