Republican U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy plans to make his case for cuts in federal spending to accompany a lifting of the government's $31.4 trillion debt ceiling in a speech at the New York Stock Exchange on Monday.

His speech comes as the federal government ticks closer to the moment sometime this summer when it will no longer be able to meet its financial obligations.

The Republicans who control the House of Representatives this week will try to unify around a proposal that would lift the limit to May 2024 -- as the next presidential election campaign ramps up -- in exchange for sharp spending cuts. Such a proposal is unlikely to win the Democratic support it would need to take effect.

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office last month laid out a range of options to address the debt, which showed that higher tax collections would have significantly more impact than spending cuts.Republicans have been discussing spending cuts for programs ranging from homeland security and law enforcement to health, education and environmental initiatives.

Pitching GOP values of ‘Greed & Cruelty’ to Wall St…

He should pitch it to Military Industrial Complex as well.

Um, he's speaker of the HOUSE.. not of Wall Street. WTF is he doing besides trying to tank the US economy ? SpeakerMcCarthy

Summary = cut all social spending and increase military spending. Same song and dance.

The pull the same bullshit every time a Democrat wins the White House.

Pitching-- it's what con men do

民主主義

So those tax cuts that Trump set an expiration date for on lower and middle class are not a priority. But the permanent ones that Wall Street is still enjoying deserves more 🤔

Still no plan. Still no direction. The GOP in deep division from radical extremists.

“We’re going to destroy the value of all your stocks & plunge the world economy into chaos because in our fantasy that means we “own the libs.” Sounds like a great plan, Kev.

MORE 'alternative facts' by the GOP!

That mallet looks really limp.

I usually finish into a towel, but I'm not sure that's what he means here. Worst Speaker in American history!
