Judges take their seats prior to reading a ruling at the International Court in The Hague, Netherlands, Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020. The United Nations' top court is scheduled to issue a decision on a request by Gambia to order Myanmar to halt what has been cast as a genocidal campaign against the southeast Asian country's Rohingya Muslim minority.
The court added that its order for so-called provisional measures intended to protect the Rohingya is binding “and creates international legal obligations” on Myanmar. At public hearings last month, lawyers for Myanmar’s accusers used maps, satellite images and graphic photos to detail what they call a campaign of murder, rape and destruction amounting to genocide perpetrated by Myanmar’s military.
Buddhist-majority Myanmar has long considered the Rohingya to be “Bengalis” from Bangladesh even though their families have lived in the country for generations. Nearly all have been denied citizenship since 1982, effectively rendering them stateless. They are also denied freedom of movement and other basic rights.
She urged judges to drop the genocide case and allow Myanmar’s military justice system to deal with any abuses.
In the last 2 years, Myanmar have frustrated every initiative that has been taken by Bangladesh to begin the repatriation of Rohingya. They visit camps, discuss same thing again & again & left each time without any decision. Later they don't reply. It's going on since 2017.
Too little, too late...the genocide already started.
Why aren’t they accepted back in Bangladesh?
As if Myanmar's military, backed by China, is doing to do jackshit to stop
and Yazidi genocide can continue ?
Myanmar is improving every day, no thanks to the US. It takes time when you were shut out of the world for half a century
/ That Judgment By The UN Court ! Is far to late as Genocide Has already Occurred !!!
Why doesn't the U.N. Send troops and do something
That ought to do it.
Too late
O muslims in Myanmar, Jihad is the best way to defend oneself
That’ll make ‘‘em shiver in their panties
the genocide in Myanmar has gone on for far too long and there was hardly any intervening until now. the sooner Aung San Suu Kyi is jailed for her acts of genocide against mankind and has her Nobel peace prize revoked, the better it will be for the Rohingya Muslims
