FAIRBANKS, Alaska - On May 4, the University of Alaska Fairbanks celebrated their 102nd commencement ceremony at the Carlson Center .As the seats filled with faculty, students, and administrators, an ambiance of achievement and pride filled the Carlson Center . University administrators walked to the stage first, followed by faculty and finally students.
Starting the speeches was UAF Chancellor Dan White and University President Pat Pitney. Chancellor White spoke to the great accomplishments of those in attendance that day as did President Pitney. “Today you are joining over 100,000 University of Alaska alumni who are building a better state and empowering Alaska,” Pitney said. She acknowledged the achievements, hard work and talent of those sitting before her, speaking to their upcoming career prospects and journeys.
Following the Pitney was a special ceremony conducted by Maj. Gen. Brian Eifler. Following the general to the stage were the graduates of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps . The graduating members of the Nanook Battalion took part in an on stage oath of office where Eifler initiated the oath for all to see and hear. This was only the second time the oath had been taken during commencement in Nanook history. The first time being last year.
