The 102nd commencement at the University of Alaska Fairbanks will honor the Class of 2024.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The 102nd commencement at the University of Alaska Fairbanks will honor the Class of 2024 on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Carlson Center .The ceremony will open with a performance from The Iñu-Yupiaq Dance Group. Tori Shoemaker will be the student speaker, she is graduating with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies.Nolan Earnest, recipient of the Marion Frances Boswell Memorial Award honoring an outstanding bachelor’s degree candidate.

Janelle Pootoogooluk, recipient of the Joel Wiegert Award honoring an outstanding associate degree candidate. T. Womack, recipient of the Gray Tilly Memorial Award honoring an outstanding nontraditional graduating candidate. There will be 15 staff members retiring from UAF, receiving emeritus status, a title given to those who have served the university with distinction for at least 10 years.The Carlson Center will open at noon on Saturday for guest seating. There will be a live stream available on theAlaska House Majority to increase security of energy during natural gas shortage in Cook Inlet regio
