WASHINGTON - U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on Thursday that trade talks with China are on track, with deputy negotiators from both countries holding a call Thursday as they actively worked toward a deal, but he said the United States is not bound to a deadline. “We’re working as hard as we can. But the President said, we’re going to get the right deal and we’re not going to be confused about an arbitrary deadline. But the talks are progressing,” Mnuchin told reporters after a House Financial Services Committee hearing.Our Standards:

I just have a very difficult time thinking this guy is doing anything constructive as Sec of Treasury. He makes a simple statement now and then, sits in meetings, and takes trips with The Pres. Otherwise, he just avoids making waves. That's how it seems.

China has no interest in making a deal with Trump. They will wait out the trade war even if it means their people will be hungry. They don't have to worry about public sentiment or elections. The Chinese would rather negotiate with a more respectable admin. than lose face
