Senate Majority Whip John Thune , who met with Trump last week on the issue, said Monday evening he was worried about the potential impact of Trump’s latest threat against China and that other Republicans were trying to make their case to the White House. That much was clear in a private White House meeting late last week, when a half-dozen Republican senators on the powerful Finance Committee had assembled to argue against Trump’s tariffs, both on foreign steel and aluminum and the threatened levies on autos.
Asked how successful the Thursday meeting in the Roosevelt Room was, Finance Committee Chairman Charles E. Grassley responded Monday: “Not very successful.” The Dow Jones industrial average on Monday plummeted more than 471 points, but recouped most of those losses by the end of the day — although the administration laid out its accusation against the Chinese of “reneging” on the trade commitments after the markets had closed.

The GOP should shut up and just follow realDonaldTrump’s lead. It was their years of neglect and complacency in negotiating with China that landed America in this position in the first place. Now they want a say in how things pan out? 🤨 Let the Maestro do his work 🇺🇸🍿👍🏼
Trump is mad because China wants to renegotiate. Ignoring his repudiation of bipartisan solutions that he agreed to and then denied; his frequent insistence on renegotiating and/or withdrawing from int'l treaties and pacts that US is signatory to. What's good for the goose ...
SenateGOP HouseGOP YOU support his insanity, don't speak up and out against his inept actions so DEAL WITH IT. If you don't like it, then stop supporting his mentally unhinged words, deeds and actions.
The GOP's 'rift'-ers should quit aiding & abetting the GOP's grifters & Grifter in Chief.
This time there will be REAL impact. Put on your seatbelts, it’s gonna be wild.
China knows realDonaldTrump is just a paper Trump at negotiating. They'll wait for 2020 election results.
“Trade wars are easy to win!”
GOP SenateGOP HouseGOP DESERVE whatever realDonaldTrump dishes out. His inept, insane, ego-driven decisions are your fault. You stand idly by, saying nothing since his election, allowing chaos to rule WhiteHouse so shut up or speak out.
“Trade wars are way to win”
SenateGOP SenSasse SenatorFischer are some of you waking up to your constitutional duties with regard to trade? That would be a good thing, but choose the right side of this 'rift,' please.
Would someone smarter than I please remind me of how the past administration vastly improved the trade deficit with China. What were the numbers? Percentage? Thank you. POTUS44
Trump doing right thing it’s time all country’s do right quit getting over on USA
Who or what hasn’t he threatened at this point?
And they’ll be “troubled” and “concerned” and nothing will change.
They are not a Conservative party anymore ! They are the party of trump ! They will never rid that stench, Ever ! Hahahaha ! RIPGOP
There are still Republicans who actually understand economics, unlike the president. There are still Republicans who don't want to tax Americans, unlike the president, since tariffs are just a tax on Americans...
Are we still pretending there are good republicans?
