The Trump administration's rollback of environmental rules is opening wetlands outside the famed Okefenokee swamp to mining. While the company says the mining can be done without impacting the swamp, an environmental group fears 'a conservation tragedy.'

FILE-In this Thursday, April 3, 1997 file photo, the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge in southeast Ga., is is seen. A mining company said Tuesday it plans to dig for minerals without a federal permit at the edge of the vast wildlife refuge in the Okefenokee Swamp, a big step for a once-embattled project that's now benefitting from the Trump administration's rollback of environmental rules.

Twin Pines President Steve Ingle said in a statement Tuesday that his company is moving ahead with plans to mine on nearly 600 acres near the Georgia-Florida line. “These decisions are being made across the country, and we’re only starting to see the consequences,” said Greg Gisler, a senior attorney for the Southern Environmental Law Center. “I think what we’ll see over the next several months, until this rule is thrown out or changes, is that we’re going to lose the streams and wetlands that we depend on.”signed the policy change narrowing

As the Army Corps weighed concerns from conservationists and government wildlife agencies, Twin Pines withdrew its application in February. A month later it submitted a new plan that significantly shrunk the project. “This property now has a large, contiguous, mineable area in the center of it because those wetlands have now been removed from our jurisdiction,” said Jason O’Kane, regulatory chief for the Army Corps’ Savannah District, which handled the Twin Pines permit application.

Ingle has long insisted his proposed mine would have a negligible impact on the swamp. All of the directly affected wetlands lie outside the Okefenokee’s boundaries.

Bert Reynolds needs to get active

The US started a war under false pretense of WMD to install puppet govt to get oil. And Trump will have none of that. Environmentalists have a hidden agenda.

We have options.we can be energy independent or we can buy our energy off of foreign govts at whatever price they set or we can send our men and women overseas to die to acquire the energy needed. Tough choice huh.

Then after they destroy it due to an 'accident' the taxpayers will have to pay to clean it up and the company may get a small fine.

Trump mocks Biden for trusting scientists while Biden slams Trump for Covid-19 'lie'President Trump mocked Joe Biden on Sunday for trusting scientists about Covid-19 shortly after Biden lambasted the president for continuing to 'lie' about the state of the pandemic. The scientists, the CDC, the WHO, even Fauci have all flip flopped and changed position on covid 19 half a dozen times or more regarding masks, lock downs and therapeutics and those are the folks Biden trusts? Trump will go to jail after he loses! NYC and FBI for fraud and tax evasion and also a dozen women for sexual harassment/abuse law suits. Maybe he’ll figure out how to pardon himself and his kids? Too sad for history but he did it to himself.

Lara Trump Defends 'Lock Her Up' Chants About Whitmer, Says Trump Was 'Having Fun'“He was having fun at a Trump rally,' the president's daughter-in-law said of his actions at a Michigan rally after a foiled abduction of the state's governor. They love to bring the hate Evil Don't amplify their stupidity/hate/crap by posting this as news. Jake Tapper should be ashamed for even having her on. I wouldn't put too much stock in Lara trump's 'he's just joking' defense of trump's incendiary remarks; after all, having married a trump puts her intelligence into question.
