Soybeans awaiting transport sit in a truck bed in Delaware, Ohio, on May 14, 2019. Some farmers fear that the protracted trade war with China will permanently alter their sales, leaving them without a foothold in one of their largest markets. The aid package is the second bailout for farmers after the Trump administration announced $12 billion in emergency measures last July. The relief plan aims to avoid problems that arose in the first aid package when soybeans received what many believed was a disproportionate amount of the money, while corn received only a penny a bushel. Other producers were shut out entirely from relief payments.
More niche crops, including tree nuts, sweet cherries, cranberries and grapes, will also be eligible for relief, depending on tariff impacts.Distributing relief funds by-county, and not by commodity, will hopefully discourage farmers from planting crops that would be more lucrative in aid money.
socialism 101.
he caused the problem and we pay for it
Welfare for farmers
but it's his trade war!
The money will end up in Putin or his cronies' pockets.
maggieNYT Buying votes
The farmers who want limited government?
Bomb a country, then give it billions to rebuild. Plunge the country into debt with erroneous policies, then spend billions to bailout... And we wonder why some have so much and many have so little....
Socialism republican style.
Basically an acknowledgement that the tarriffs are a failure.
And says China is paying for it. No, Liar-in-Chief, they’re not. American consumers and businesses are shouldering the burden. Is realDonaldTrump that ignorant?
Instead of paying Triple for food, goods and services, we'll be paying Quadruple.
And what about everyone else losing out because of the trade war?
Erm............... MAGA?
Sounds socialist-y 🤔
Hey Republicans, where is this money coming from?
Will the farmers get this aid or will special interest groups get theirs first.
The US is paying TariffTard’s tariffs (a tax) so TariffTard can send that money to farmers. And the GOP say they are against entitlements? Fucking hilarious I say.
Who passed that money bill?
What about all the other companies hit by the trade war. No welfare for them.
Aren’t farmers going to become dependent on welfare? Shouldn’t they all have to be means tested first? I mean, why does Chuck Grassley need bail out money?
The farmer still haven’t reaped the benefits of Chump’s first round of socialism, I mean “help.”🙄
maggieNYT Socialism!!!!
Are we winning yet?
I don’t want my taxes going for this idiocy.
Socialism for farmers sponsored by the GOP realDonaldTrump and senatemajldr
maggieNYT No wonder there’s no money for infrastructure
Trump just trying to fix shit he broke. And failing at that too.
Permanent harm for our farmers. The Chinese will be keeping their new suppliers.
Appease the farmers to save your ass
“As Trump left the event, he turned to the Idaho potato farmer and said, “I’d rather be farming potatoes.” Mr. President: That would also be the preference of 65,844,610 voters 👍
Socialism at its finest
So, socialism then?
maggieNYT Paid for by corporate tax cuts of course.
Just give them 16 billion in food stamps.
Not only has realDonaldTrump devastated the farm industry he now asks American tax payers to bail them out. All because of his stupid trade policy. Or lack of trade policy. DumbestPresidentEver DonTheCon DerangedDonnie
Economic insanity.
Why don’t we call these Federal Bail Outs like Obama aid packages were? 🤷🏾♂️
Socialism for Republicans only.
Too many farmers have already had to declare bankruptcy. Too much of the hands of farmers went to Republicans and did not ever make it to the farmers. Trump fucks the farmers and then thinks fake announcements will win them back.
More socialism from Trump. Ironic.
Would the Trump administration release the list of farmers that will be receiving subsidies? It would be nice to know that the majority of the money is NOT going to huge corporations and Brazilian thieves.
Taxpayer's money, we don't mine helping the people that feed us we thank and love them for what they do but that damn administration has too stop lying about who's paying who for what, it's all about getting the votes.
Wasting more tax money because of bad policy.
So tired of winning. The average American is paying the tariffs NOT CHINA. Worst dealmaker ever
Borrowing from Peter to pay Paul won't work in the long run. American tax payers paying for realDonaldTrump mistakes he made himself.
Dirty hands are in the cookie jar We need to ask this hypocrite ChuckGrassley about his application for farm bailout subsidies
Socialism
Where are the funds coming from? NOBAILOUT
welfare?
American farmers are struggling while Trump's admin gives $62million in funding to a Brazilian corporation
It's not his money. He doesn't pay taxes.
maggieNYT so we are paying even more for his tariffs...pay it yourself realDonaldTrump let them go on welfare
Buying love! Trump believes that average person is like him transactional and shallow throw money at the problem. But, he lacks principlesðics. Trade Tariffs will deplete business markets Corn and Soybeans have fallen. The Working man isn't really a sucker... DT thinks he is!
...even I know that and I'm the furthest from an economist you could possibly find.
Well, what a gesture! Digging more into middle class pocket! 16 billion?!…But, How this will impact once more the national dept or the face value of the currency?…Trump is throwing more smoke, trying to navigate out of the mess of his own doing...
maggieNYT With the 12 billion last year, 16 billion this year, that’s 28 billion we will borrow from China to subsidize farmers because of his tariffs on China. Beautiful!!
Trump seems to think the extra they pay for imports and the less they get from exports goes into a national fund somewhere. That's not how tariffs work. Trump's just pilling billions more into the national debt. That is partly owned by china....
