The Trump administration weighs requiring hospitals to publicly disclose the negotiated prices they charge insurance companies

WASHINGTON—The Trump administration is sounding out the medical industry on requiring hospitals and other health care providers to publicly disclose the secretly negotiated prices they charge insurance companies for services, a move that would expose for the first time the actual cost of care.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is seeking public comment on whether patients have a right to see the discounted prices in advance of obtaining care, federal officials said. The invitation for comment—outlined in a little...

Now THIS would be actual HealthcareReform!

This is a good start in the beginning of making healthcare more transparent. See link to article summarizing potential next steps to transparency after making hospital-insurer contracts available. Next thing needed is disclosure of utilization. See story

Get rid of the “black box” - this is healthcare!

At least Trump knows what the real healthcare problem is. COST.

The Trump administration will walk this back as soon as the American Hospital Association lobby check clears.

realDonaldTrump great idea-limit, and expose the greed of hospitals and pharmaceutical companies!

An idea I support from this admin. But I also supported back ground checks. Guessing once the insurance pharma money weighs in it will die a similar death

This is a great idea for everyone. How long before this turns into a partisan battle?

Yes they should

Good! Local hospital trying to make me pay “list” price but I know the BCBS price and am refusing the 100% markup. Screw me but give insurance company a deal.

This should be made public! It would be nice if all health insurance and hospitals were made NON-PROFIT too!!

How about having just one price? It costs the hospital the same amount to perform a procedure regardless of who is paying the bill.

Most economic theories rely on people behaving rationally, people can’t make rational choices if they don’t know what they’re choosing. In short, any free market person must support this

Well I’ll be damned, an actual good idea from the Trump Admin, which prob means they won’t go through with it

How about hospitals posting real prices and sticking to them (like Switzerland)? If auto repair shops did their billing like hospitals you would be sure the government would be all over them.

People have aright to know how much their care costs. You would've thought Obamacare would have provided protections from the abuses of the healthcare industry but instead they chose to go after the insurance companies who have very little to do with the costs of care.

Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh will tell him not to do it.

It's a start!

Addtionally, require employers to disclose their share of insurance costs to their employees.

Classic case where short term requirement followed by sunset would suffice

100% they should. We are paying for the healthcare as it is today...

what do you do, when the man you hate does something good?

Why do I get the feeling that Trump “weighing the decision” is code for frantically ringing around to all the leading Insurance co/Hospital network execs to ask for Mother’s permission before taking action (can’t recklessly go around making industry titans look bad, can we?)

This should be law

Would be an excellent move. Medical bills and expenses are too opaque. Greater transparency is needed and would lead to freer markets, more choices and competition, and lower consumer prices.

This photo of Mt Carmel in Columbus, Ohio not good. Since they have exposed a Dr of killing 26 patients with fentanyl.

Or all reimbursed rates could be set by CMS and everyone could be covered on the same plan; a plan like Medicare. What if everyone had Medicare? That would simplify things enormously for everyone. I hope someone’s looking into that.

Hospitals, doctors, and medicine have turned into profitable businesses and unscrupulous companies, and their leaders are only interested in profits and dividends, even if thousands of people have to die because this.

Again this administration being super lazy...did the same thing with drug prices at pharmacies...nothing will happen!!!

They won’t.

Americans manage to have a lower lifetime span while spending more money on their health compared with their European counterparts.

This would be a radical change. Would potentially lead to lower costs for consumers that better reflect true free-market dynamics.

Does Donald Trump know about this?

There must be some money grab associated with this or else POTUS wouldn't be pushing it

I never thought I would say this but yeah, I like this idea.

Fucking do it! PLEASE

Transparency is good Less people being scammed.

GREAT IDEA!

Trump Administration Proposes Expanding Overtime CoverageThe Labor Department is proposing a rule that would raise the salary threshold for overtime eligibility to $35,308 from the current $23,660 a year, potentially expanding the pool of covered employees by 1.3 million. Not good for business, employees or America. Businesses compete for good employees and must pay market prices or suffer the consequences of high turnover. Companies don’t need more red tape on how to pay people. Point blank. Overtime is stupid. We should be able to afford a life on no more than 40 hours. Back in the 1960s the experts said we will work no more than 30 hours, and robots would slowly pay more of a dividend. Employers will get around the overtime rule by cutting the hours. The minute people think they can finally make ends meet, the employers cut hours and make it impossible for people to have a 2nd job cause the employees don't know when they can work the other job.
