Drug makers will have to start including the list price of medications in their television ads, the Trump administration says

The move is the first rule implemented from the administration's blueprint to lower drug costs, which was released a year ago."Requiring the inclusion of drugs' list prices in TV ads is the single most significant step any administration has taken toward a simple commitment: American patients deserve to know the prices of the healthcare they receive," said Health & Human Services Secretary Alex Azar.

It rolled out a voluntary measure last October to direct consumers during TV ads to drug maker websites for pricing information instead of including the specific list price in ads."We are concerned that the administration's rule requiring list prices in direct-to-consumer television advertising could be confusing for patients and may discourage them from seeking needed medical care," said Stephen Ubl, the group's CEO.

It's about time; the drug pharmaceutical have such a powerfully lobby that they will fight tooth and 💅...

The side effects alone with these televised commercials are enough to keep me away from them!

He wants to know how much $ he’s making.

They’re not really medication ads, they’re mostly commercials with side effects.

Trump will flip flop on this by tomorrow. Perhaps tonight.

Doesn’t really help when you have to pay it to live

Next step is for EVERY hospital and dr. office in U.S. to have a sign on the wall with cost for every surgery, procedure, and service offered w/ the fee. Like walking into a McDonald’s and seeing the menu behind the counter. If they are embarrassed to show their price, too bad.

“We are concerned that the administration's rule ... may discourage them from seeking needed medical care,' said Stephen Ubl, the group's CEO. Newsflash - patients are already discouraged from seeking needed medical care due to costs. Now we’ll know drug prices at least.

That could be a mistake. Drug buyers seeing and knowing how much they cost, and that they are being ripped off.

Lmao that does nothing at all to lower costs!

Good news.

I see an opportunity for payers here. Mutual benefit. Pharma gets to show how rare it is to pay retail price. Payer gets to remind its members how much negotiating they do. Retail price: $X Humana price: $Y

Good

Good job
