by all accounts, there remains one aspect that confused fans when it was initially announced, the absence of Trials of Osiris returning to the game despite the focus on Mercury and Osiris himself. It seemed like a prime time to bring back the fabled PvP mode, and yet that didn’t happen.I have a new theory, one that involves several moving pieces both in and out of the game.
1. According to the roadmap, there is an activity that will be starting in February called Empyrean Foundation, pretty much the last activity of the season besides Crimson Days. Bungie has not said one word about this, but the photo shown there seems to be the public zone of Mercury converted into the “idyllic past” version of itself, and further art seems to confirm that.
4. Empyrean Foundation is marked with a non-seasonal symbol in the roadmap, meaning that it is free for all players and it is not something that will be going away after this season. When Trials does return, it stands to reason that it will also not be a seasonal activity but rather something added permanently to the game.5. Behind the scenes, when I ask about Trials, Bungie keeps telling me that I’m “too impatient.
