The top homicide detective in Minneapolis testifies that kneeling on George Floyd's neck was 'totally unnecessary' and not part of training

The Minneapolis Police Department's top homicide detective testified that kneeling on George Floyd's neck after he had been handcuffed was"totally unnecessary," saying that"if your knee is on someone's neck -- that could kill them."

Lt. Richard Zimmerman, head of the homicide division for more than 12 years, testified Friday that Derek Chauvin's actions violated policy by pressing his weight down on Floyd's neck for more than nine minutes while the man was handcuffed and in a prone position. Police are not trained to kneel on a person's neck, he said. "Once the person is cuffed, the threat level goes down all the way," the lieutenant told jurors at Chauvin's murder trial.

New bodycam footage from trial of officer's reaction after interaction with George Floyd 03:44His version of the encounter is contradicted by videos showing Chauvin kneeling on Floyd, who was handcuffed after he had passed out. Prosecutors said he knelt on Floyd for 3 minutes and 51 seconds during which Floyd was non-responsive.Chauvin has pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

smerconish JoeyJacksonEsq JamesAGagliano Weak argument. Floyd's heart was strong enough to endure being handcuffed, in the prone position with three officers on him. Who among us non drug users can say definitively they could survive that?

JoeyJacksonEsq JamesAGagliano smerconish So CNN when are y'all moving your headquarters out of Georgia

smerconish JoeyJacksonEsq JamesAGagliano Why does EMS respond to 'overdose calls?' Per Joey Jackson, those people never die unless cops show up.

JoeyJacksonEsq JamesAGagliano smerconish Joey always takes way too much time. 'And one final point Erin' after already making 5 at length.

What about Derek Chauvins drug test? Can we see that?

Most of all it was fake, George is alive and well.

But it was in the training manual just before the George Floyd incident

No one is answering the big questions. Why were the first words out of George’s mouth saying they are going to kill him? Why did the cop knowing he was killing George on camera make sure he was dead? Who were the passengers and why weren’t they arrested? Something not right ...

Sorry about restraining by the neck was in the police training manual until after George Floyd's death when they took it off and changed it. So he was just doing his job as trained

But kneeling was actually a part of their training, they literally passed a law removing that method after George died

Talk about the Antifa murderer in washington today

Stop being a coward, plead guilty.

'If your knee is on someone's neck... That could kill him.' 'Police are not trained to kneel on a person's neck.' Guilty. Guilty. Guilty.

Kneeling on a person of colour's neck is very likely a part of training in various White Supremacist terrorist 'training' camps in Virginia, Carolina, Georgia, Dakota, Indiana, Kentucky, etc.

Justice is a circus show. An unharmed addict a human is murdered by a police who is hired to uphold the law & protect its citizens. The policeman was not threatened; he has his hand in his pocket while his knee is on a helpless man!Justice! Serve NO LESS than 20yrs SERVED. GUILTY

The irony! the lawyer of a blatantly sadistic evil murder disgraced fired cop! Is Questioning the experience of a 30 year plus veteran with an impeccable record! Where the fuck is the justice?

Watching both the defence and prosecuting lawyers is painful. Continuously looking at their notes. Not speaking in a clear and concise manner. Jury must be very confused and frustrated.

jam2478 One would hope that killing people for no reason is not part of police training. Why they are doing it anyway?

Bye, bye Chauvin

They’re so strict!

So much for protecting their own.

Lt. Richard Zimmerman was excellent. Totally reiterated the force used was completely unnecessary. When he said “it’s the duty of the police to keep ‘EVERYBODY’ safe”, he said ‘Everybody’ with such emphasis!

Who is responsible for George Floyd death ?

Duh... not rocket science folks!

Lock him up

Also: water is wet.

Wow. Shocking.
