The Transbay Joint Powers Authority now plans to launch a public awareness campaign for the project and its new name in the first quarter of the next year.

San Francisco's Downtown Rail Extension project has a new name: The Portal.

The name and tagline are the products of a nearly two-year effort to rebrand the Downtown Rail Extension, or DTX, to cultivate broader public support. The project will include a 1.3-mile underground rail extension to bring Caltrain to the Salesforce Transit Center downtown and a new train station at Fourth and Townsend streets, where Caltrain currently ends near Oracle Park.
