A 7-acre plot in Milwaukee will soon be turned into a village of tiny homes for veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Mayor Tom Bartett signed off on a zoning authorization on Monday, in honor of Veterans Day, for the community.

There will be 42 homes, each about 240 square feet, at the land on 6767 N 60th St, according to the group. There will also be a 10,000-square-foot community center, filled with restrooms, a kitchen, pool tables and a washer and dryer, where veterans can socialize. The community center gives veterans the opportunity to"leave their home on their time and seek out a group setting and then return to privacy and independence when they want," Murphy said.

There are 15 tiny homes in Racine, which are each 120 square feet. So far, the group has successfully graduated nine veterans since the homes were opened in November 2017, according to Murphy.

proudfatherkris Why can't this be for ALL Americans..a housingOpportunityForAll

Who’s going to do the maintenance and upkeep on these homes? It certainly won’t be the lazy shmucks who will be living there.

Fixing the problem in front of you is not going to fix the cause.

Doesn't look like these are accessible for vets with handicaps.

The need for this is frightening. Service should prepare for life after and should be considered an asset by employers.

Mad late, I said something like this should be done 5 years ago

My husband has had this same idea for years. He wants to build tiny homes for emergency housing for people who have to leave their homes due to natural disasters.

240 sq ft?

You ran this story before...Oh and Jeffrey Epstein didn’t kill himself

How awesome! ScottAdamsSays your community planning idea in motion.

Bet you they move on after awhile and make something of the opportunity. Bet you they will be replaced by the bottomless pit demographic who will turn it into wasteland.

Tiny homes? That how you do the people that died for you, us, and this Country. Should have at least gave them a full size house PERIOD!!!

How will this prevent them from becoming homeless? Most homeless are mentally ill and unemployed or unemployable. Are the units free?

fayfredricks Being that I'm a Marine Corps Veteran that's just awesome! I hope it can spread across the country! 🇺🇸

We need to care for our vets.

Bravo! Excellent idea!

Beautiful. Every city and town should do this.🤗🤗

Good story. Upstairs sleeping quarters, though....?

Tiny home livin’... the American dream

Beautiful! I hope there will be more help for the veterans of all the wars... It is horrible to see a young life destroyed, damaged and with noone wishing, wanting or be capable to help. Reminds me of Remarque's Way back home....

Town Nervously Welcomes Veteran Back HomeBEVERLY, MA—Upon Sgt. 1st Class Ted Orcutt’s return from a year of active combat duty in Afghanistan, the 34-year-old veteran’s tight-knit community came out in full force to nervously welcome him home, sources reported Monday. “Great to have you back, man,” said an apprehensive childhood friend of Orcutt, shaking the National Guard member’s hand just a beat too long as assorted neighbors and town officials smiled and looked on anxiously. “You look good. You look great! Hey, if you ever need anything, just let us know. Call me any time. For a beer, whatever. Phone’s always on.” At press time, locals were reportedly exchanging nervous glances as the veteran excused himself for a moment from his welcome-back barbecue. No fireworks Lol Rambo
