Instead, Nicole held down multiple jobs while finishing high school and college, and relied on food stamps so she could prioritize her daughter Jasmyn's education. "Her quality of life really became important to me," says Nicole. "I took the risk and signed her up for private school. I was so determined to work double shifts and do whatever I needed to keep her there. I thought that was the only way to make sure she was going to be okay.
“I went through this really weird spiritual journey where I just felt afraid,” says Nicole. “And I had never been afraid. I was a fearless child. I was a fearless young mom. But this spirit of fear was on me, thick.” She says both friends and her faith in God urged her to tell her story, so she created an IndieGoGo titled Broken Boobs asking for $25,000. It made only $570, but it caught the eye of Beyoncé, who featured Nicole on her website for Breast Cancer Awareness month.
