Several North Texas cities were named among the hardest-working in the country by personal finance website WalletHub.

To determine the rankings, WalletHub compared the 116 largest cities in the U.S. across 11 key measures, including average hours worked per week, employment rate, number of workers with multiple jobs, percent of workers leaving vacation time unused and average commute.

Analysts gathered data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Travel Association, Gallup, Social Science Research Council and Corporation for National & Community Service.. “We work so hard, in fact, that we put in more hours at our jobs than several other industrialized countries.”— 169 hours more than the average in Japan, 400 more than the U.K. and 435 more than Germany.

Change may be coming, though, thanks in large part to the COVID-19 pandemic, said Prakash L. Dheeriya, professor of finance at California State University, who was quoted in the study. “The last two years have caused workers to reflect on their purpose in life, and what is really important to them,” he said. “They have begun to understand the importance of quality of life.”
