The tiny town where Germany’s Russian pipe dream became a nightmare

LUBMIN, Germany — Standing onstage in a tastefully lit auditorium just north of Lubmin on Germany’s Baltic coast, Angela Merkel and Dmitry Medvedev were all smiles.
