A small town in upstate New York voted to keep the name Swastika, saying that the town founders named it after the Sanskrit word and not the hate symbol associated with Nazis.
The Town of Black Brook town board, which has domain over the hamlet, voted unanimously to not change the name, Jon Douglass, supervisor for the Town of Black Brook, told CNN. Swastika was named by the town's original settlers in the 1800s and is based off the Sanskrit word meaning"well-being," according to Douglass.
I wonder if the left will now want to execute any female named after the Egyptian Goddess “Isis.”
Still offenses to some which is politically unacceptable!!
I wannaa see the town flag , I can imagine what it looks like .
You would think this is so ridiculous that is was actually an onion article.
An NPR report this morning stated the opposite was true🤔
In a related story, Mayor of Swastika, Adolf Trump, said that the name of the town has different meanings, on both sides.
Don’t like the name? Don’t go there. Feelings do not matter.
I’m guessing this is a Sundown Town...
They have it backwards, so maybe rename it Sauwastika or सौवस्तिक.
I live in Ilkley, in the north of England. On 'Ilkley Moor', there is a Swastika Stone. A stone with a swastika carved on it. It's a local landmark. No one knows for sure how old it is but it's very, very old. We are all happy with it, because it's history. Argument anyone ?
Right! Says Burning Cross, Alabama.
Claim your HATE !!!
Can't wait to hear CNN's indignation over that.
Finally found some journo who knows the difference between swastika and hooked cross.
Swastika is a symbol as old as human civilization, and even a little bit older. Everybody who sees it only as a Nazi symbol is simply uneducated.
Iiight
The start of the hunting seasons in the Middle East.
Good, common sense prevails
That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard....If the founders from 1800 time travelled to 2020 they would think ya’ll are crazy to keep that name. WTF
