The i Vision Dee is a mid-size sedan at its core, meant to slot into BMW's lineup where the 3-Series currently resides. Dee is an acronym that stands for Digital Emotional Experience, the software that defines the entire user interface. The company describes it as an intelligent piece of tech with"almost human capabilities." The biggest highlight is what BMW calls the Mixed Reality Slider, a head-up display that projects onto the entire front windscreen.
The i Vision Dee's design itself is a far step from the company's current lineup, with a paired down, monolithic shape and simplistic lines. The wide kidney grille has headlights built-in, along with the ability to produce different facial expressions, according to BMW. The body is covered in a new version of BMW's E-ink technology, updated to display up to 32 different colors.
“With the BMW i Vision Dee, we are showcasing what is possible when hardware and software merge," chairman Oliver Zipse said in."In this way, we are able to exploit the full potential of digitalization to transform the car into an intelligent companion. That is the future for automotive manufacturers—and, also, for BMW: the fusion of the virtual experience with genuine driving pleasure.
