Maggie Lena Walker in her office. She opened St. Luke Penny Savings Bank on the first floor of St. Luke Hall on November 2, 1903, in Richmond, Va.
If everyone just worked hard to get ahead the world would be a better place. You don't feel good about yourself when you are given something that you don't deserve. Good for her
The editorial board at WSJ is happily, tirelessly working to ensure all future Black bank CEOs receive an equally hostile reception
“Have faith, have hope, have courage, and carry on.” Her resilience changed lives . Beautiful story. PeterMuchuku
That makes me think the definition of 'Black'

She was also a Republican. Trump2020
Inspiring story here
A bank? I could think of better, less corrupt was to make your name
What an amazing woman!
She would not have made it had there been things like affirmative action to help her. A play ground tilted in your favor will never make you a good competitor.
Systemic racism would have stopped her early in her blossoming.
Be hostile all you want, your wives all love me.
She's like the original Rachel Dolezol.
Black lives matter
thanks
I am so glad Maggie Lena Walker has a statue.
I doubt your opinions have seen hurdles that many have faced and overcome
That’s fantastic, what you can do when you apply yourself👏
'In 1921, Walker ran for the seat of superintendent of public instruction on the Republican ticket'
👍
(She was a Republican)
As a Afro-Amer I am proud to see people of color stand up for something. White women didn't want to sing the same song with Afro-Amer females, even though the music was the same tune.
Working hard, everyone has a chance to reach his goals. This really matters.
So America is the land of opportunity with hard work and not of 'systemic racism' ...hmm who would've thought
One of the great RVA contributions to the world!
Brilliant woman!
