More coffee beans does not make for stronger or better coffee.

or espresso machine with a ton of extra coffee grounds in order to get "a more flavorful, caffeinated cup." These people will claim they can only get through the morning with an extra-strong cup. If you know people like this, get in touch, sit them down, and tell them that they’re wrong. You’d think it would, right? Adding morethat hold flavor and caffeine and oils should give you coffee with more of all of those things. But that’s not how brewing coffee works.

We get flavor from coffee beans because the hot water dissolves soluble compounds in the ground beans . When it comes to coffee, there’s only so much flavor and caffeine that can be extracted from each bean. Over-extracting coffee will make coffee taste bitter, dry, and flavorless. And under-extracting will leave you with coffee that tastes sour and a bit salty.

when we brew. When you add more beans, you’re just wasting coffee, since there’s only so much caffeine that you can draw out before you start to pull over-extracted flavors, too. Yeah this is not true especially if your only brewing a few cups. It’s not that simple, you need a higher ratio for smaller brews.

1:16 coffee to water sounds nuts, but I'll try it

no the only thing that makes top of the line espresso better coffee is coffeemate creme brûlée this has been your white trash trailer park coffee talk you may now return to your regular programming

Thought the answer was temperature of the water.

What a nonsense article. 1:16 is a guideline, not an absolute rule, and the coffee/water ratio is far from the most important factor for making great coffee in any case. Why bother sharing this?

We mix chocolate into ours!

jordanschlansky are they right?

Stephkpifer my two favorite things. Coffee and BEANS 🤣

True that

That doesn't make sense...more beans equals more oils/caffeine. However I think your on the right track cause a higher ratio of oils to water will yield a foul tasting concoction

I just weighed that out and wow that’s lots of coffee. Two scoops more than I use and I like strong coffee.😬

I see this ratio of 1:16 suggested often but coffee invariably comes out too thin for my taste. A finer grind just makes it taste more bitter. I find a ratio of 1:10 makes for a brew that really highlights the fruit flavor of coffee and stands up well to milk.
