Richard Bowden at the old American Legion Hall which has been totally remodeled and is where musician Don Henley honed his musical talent. In the age of the internet, songs, books, movies — musty archives from the past — often rise up, and in the parlance of the day, even go viral. Such is the case with “Long Long Time,” recorded by Linda Ronstadt in 1970. And she owes it all to the zombie series The Last of Us now airing on HBO.
It’s not the only show to have featured the song. The pilot episode of the NBC series “The Midnight Special,” circa 1972, carries a live performance of Ronstadt’s Grammy-nominated version of “Long Long Time.” It’s now seeing a wave of its own clicks, thanks entirely to “The Last of Us.” And that performance has a strong connection to Texas.
When Henley left for the Eagles, Bowden was already a ranking member of Ronstadt’s band. He later became lead guitarist for, among others, Dan Fogelberg, Johnny Rivers and Roger McGuinn of The Byrds, before joining the country comedy duo, Pinkard & Bowden. Along with Ronstadt, Bowden is mentioned in a new “major” exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tenn., called “Western Edge: The Roots and Reverberations of Los Angeles Country-Rock,” which opened last fall.
