In a late-night ruling Tuesday, a federal appeals court further blocked a Texas law that gives the state a role in arresting and deporting migrants.
The 2-1 ruling by a 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel keeps in place a February injunction issued by a lower court. It was not the final say in the matter as the same three judges will hear oral arguments April 3 on the law’s legality.The ruling — issued Tuesday minutes before midnight — was the second time in the past week that the court panel halted enforcement of the law.Texas argues the law is a legal response to what it calls an invasion along the state’s border with Mexico.
