Eggs have become a scarce item on grocery shelves during the COVID-19 pandemic, so San Antonio residents have decided to stockpile chickens. That still doesn't solve the age-old question of which came first.

."We've had shipments of 300 to 350 per week, and everything is getting sold."

"Some people were looking for 100 at a time, and one even asked for 150 ... that took us by surprise," Quintanilla said."We had to turn them down. Ten is our limit, but most of our customers have been reasonable and are asking for four or five at a time."last month tracked down a hatchery in Missouri called the Cackle Hatchery, which usually hatches about 250,000 chicks a week, and even their sales have increased by at least 100 percent.

With the uncertainty on how long the coronavirus pandemic will last, or how much the shutdown will affect grocery shelves, it could be a good learning experience for someone wanting to create their own food.

How to Dye Easter Eggs Naturally, Without a Store-Bought KitLike most people, I grew up on Paas eggs, glowing with chemical dyes and artificial colors. But my wife followed an Easter tradition of wrapping eggs in onion skins and boiling them. Last year while living in Estonia, we dyed the eggs this way, laying sprigs of dill, bits of rice, and whatever grass or leaves we could find in the yard inside the skins. You can also experiment with easy-to-find foods—like beets, tumeric, and red cabbage—for all-natural dyes.
