African-Americans in San Francisco are being left behind despite the booming tech economy. Many factors are to blame, but Silicon Valley could do much more to reduce the inequities, writes GinaChon.

Salesforce.com Chief Executive Marc Benioff said in the New York Times on Oct. 14 that capitalism has led to “horrifying inequality.

” He called for a fairer version of capitalism in which corporations focus not only on shareholders but on all their stakeholders, including communities. He noted that San Francisco-based Salesforce has donated almost $300 million to local public schools and addressing homelessness.
