Taylor Swift fans’ outrage over Ticketmaster’s service meltdown Tuesday has shined a spotlight on a common and recurring criticism about the ticketing company: It has practically no competition. For many, buyers there’s no avoiding Ticketmaster if you want to attend an event. Tuesday’s meltdown brought calls by lawmakers to break up Live Nation, the country’s largest concert promoter and Ticketmaster’s parent company, which they say has a stranglehold on ticket sales to top events.

But complaints about the company’s monopoly power, go back long, long before Tuesday’s ticket problems, when the platform appeared to crash or freeze during presale purchases for Swift’s latest tour.

Here's another option: don't go see Taylor Swift. Support her via less expensive alternatives. No one's putting a gun to your head to go see her perform live. Is your life going to end if you don't see her in concert? 🙄

Love how this issue doesn’t get any press at all until it affects swift. It’s been an issue for years. And only now major news outlets want to talk about it.

Unless you're willing to stop watching these acts, it will continue. Send a message or shut up and stop whining. Only way to stop it is to hurt them financially.

Ticketmaster ran through this issue with Pearl Jam, their fees and services for a 2hr concert performance are very high, but also realizing the demand for an artist like Swift and short supply give the company leverage.
