Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour has accomplished another huge box office record. The concert documentary, which was directed by Sam Wrench, is a filmed version of the pop superstar's tour of the same name, boasting a massive 169-minute run time.
Per Variety, the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour box office has crossed a major milestone in its third weekend. With an additional $14.7 million domestic bringing its cumulative worldwide gross to $203 million, the movie has now officially crossed the $200 million threshold. This is a huge box office feat for any movie, and in fact The Eras Tour is just the 20th movie of the year to do so behind The Nun II, which has now earned a total of $263.8 million.
How Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Compares To Other Concert Movies While The Eras Tour isn't the first blockbuster concert documentary, it was the first entry in the genre to earn more than $100 million, let alone $200 million. The previous highest-grossing concert movie before the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour box office record eclipsed it was 2011's Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, which grossed $99 million worldwide.
The only other previous movie that the Eras Tour release hasn't caught up with is the posthumously-released 2009 documentary Michael Jackson's This Is It. While it's technically not a concert documentary because it's compiled from backstage footage of a concert that was never staged, it is the only other comparable movie that has outgrossed Taylor Swift's documentary.
Even if it can't surpass the total of This Is It, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour has accomplished an amazing record. It remains to be seen how long it can hold on to that record, however. The similarly massive concert documentary Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, also a supersized movie depicting a tour that took place this summer, is set to premiere on December 1 and could very well harness Beyoncé's global superstardom to earn an even higher gross.
