New study from Stanford University shows surprise medical bills – when you visit a hospital and, some time later, get charged a bill – are on the rise.

A new study from Stanford University published in JAMA Internal Medicine shows surprise medical bills – when you visit a hospital and, some time later, get charged a bill – are on the rise.

If you visited the emergency department in 2010, there was a 32% likelihood you would receive a surprise medical bill. But in 2016, Sun and his team found it rose to just under 43%. These surprise bills come from a variety of sources, but primarily it has to do with insurance coverage, according to the researchers.

Ambulance services, an often overlooked source of medical costs, resulted in a surprise bill for 86% of ER visits and nearly 82% of hospital admissions. "In these settings, you often can't choose who you're treated by, so surprise bills are very difficult to avoid," Sun said.

Thats no joke! I use a special price transparency tool that shows what hospitals and physicians actually charge nationwide.

Another Trump FAIL Part of Trumpcare Remember he promised to repeal Obamacare and repace it with a much better health insurance based plan

That's why I endorsed BernieSanders

All the more reason for people to be the priority rather than corporations & hospitals.

And they speak of me more films.

All lot of unnecessayy tests and procedures too as a way to increase billings. Greed and fraud in our health care sysrem.

do your thing ABC, please help me share . Thank you

Just got one. Hit my credit.

When filling out papers agreeing to treatment, my friend thoroughly crosses out the part that says she will pay what the insurance doesn’t cover, and initials it. Does anyone with a knowledge of the law know if this protects her in any way?

Please report on how the public can get legislators to outlaw this practice.

John Q and Sicko covered this well I feel health care shouldn’t be run like a business but of course it is

And the fresh prince when I was teenager.

They trap us, really. Where else can we go

I' m the child of Forrest Gamp film, you can see with the president John Fitzgerald Kennedy, I'm John Fitzgerald Kerry ( secuestrado by my father)

Healthcare - excellent healthcare - should be a basic human right. You are a rich country -the best healthcare should not be a financial issue/ burden to those who need it .

And the hospitals really don’t do anything if you don’t pay these bills. So why should anyone pay them?

The bills are horrendous! Look what happens when you beat stage 4 cancer but your liver gets destroyed in the treatments, then UNOSNews changes their system but hasn’t fixed unintended flaws... please help ErikaZak1 immediately.

I WONDER WHY. SINCERELY MS. GARY

A tumblr post from Stanford University shows surprise medical bills – when you visit a hospital and, some time later, get charged a bill – are on the rise.

health care is like McDonald's ~ it is purely for pleasure and entertainment and is NOT something you just 'get'. if it was it would be called a HUMAN RIGHT

Yep got one the other day, from an ex doctor.

A friend visiting us from the US here in France ended up in the hospital with heart trouble. He's OK but hasn't yet received the bill. He has insurance and there will be a surprise: despite top-quality care, I doubt the bill will hit his deductible.

No way... are you saying for-profit healthcare is screwing people over every single day in America, and no other western industrialised nation has this stupid system?

Democrat priorities: Ban straws but not illegal immigration Healthcare for illegals but not for our veterans Aid to other nations but not our inner cities Investigate the president, but not criminal, deep state leakers

全世界都應該把所有醫療費用降低。都不應該付高額醫藥費。

This is why we need Medicare for all. The hospitals would not be allowed to do this exorbitant billing.

I’m being billed for services covered and paid for by Medicare. That’s double-dipping. I’d rather go to my cat’s vet.

Yea, no shit.

Illegals don’t have to pay.

I have a doc that gets submitted with surgical center or hospital documents. They know up front I'm difficult: 'I DO NOT pay surprise out of network invoices. Make sure every person who touches me is in network.' Be a bitch first. It saves trouble later.

Always! What’s the point of Pre- authorization? When later they bill you after you give them pre payment or arrangements. It’s a BIG SCAM!

That sh$t goes straight into the shredder. I’m done getting scammed by the healthcare/insurance industry.
