WASHINGTON - U.S. Supreme Court justices on Monday wrestled for the second time over whether Republican legislators in Virginia drew electoral districts in the state in a way that unlawfully diluted the clout of black voters.

The case involves gerrymandering, a practice involving the manipulation of electoral district boundaries to marginalize a certain set of voters and increase the influence of others. One way the court could resolve the case is to say that the House of Delegates, which sought to appeal the ruling, did not have legal standing to do so. The state’s Democratic attorney general, Mark Herring, has argued that the House cannot pursue the case independently and that only he could decide whether or not there would be an appeal.

Democrats have accused Republicans in Virginia and other states of crafting such legislative maps in a way that crams black and other minority voters, who tend to favor Democratic candidates, into certain districts in order to reduce their overall sway in the state.

Supreme Court to consider whether Beltway sniper Lee Boyd Malvo deserves new sentencingBetween Sept. 5 and Oct. 22, 2002, John Allen Muhammad and Malvo killed 10 people and wounded others in sniper attacks in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Sure, give him the death sentence and save the taxpayers the expense of supporting him for another 20 or more years. We must allow ourselves to find root cause for mass killings by guns. And accept the fact for what it is. I ask myself, why is it 90% White Males and White Supremacist emboldened, American Citizens? no

Supreme Court agrees to hear deadly DC sniper shootings caseThe Supreme Court agreed to consider Virginia’s plea to reinstate the life-without-parole sentence of a man who as a teenager participated in sniper shootings that terrorized the Washington, D.C., region in 2002 While this crime was particularly egregious, as a 'child' who was highly influenced by an adult and not fully formed, how responsible is he for his actions? The science is not clear on such cases. He did not participate. He murdered people. Glossing over this is an embarrassment. He was young. He was manipulated by the older man. The state is treating him unfairly.
