Breaking: The Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the NCAA's strict limits on compensating college athletes violate antitrust law

WASHINGTON—The Supreme Court on Monday ruled that strict NCAA limits on compensating college athletes violate U.S. antitrust law, a decision that could have broad ramifications for the future of college sports.by Justice Neil Gorsuch, upheld lower court rulings that said the NCAA unlawfully limited schools from competing for player talent by offering better benefits, to the detriment of college athletes.

The decision doesn’t open up a world of unlimited pay for college athletes, an issue that wasn’t before the court. Instead, the justices said the NCAA must allow colleges to recruit athletes by offering them additional compensation and benefits, as long as they are tied to education. That means schools could offer compensation beyond the cost of attending college, such as scholarships for graduate or vocational schools, internships, computer equipment and study-abroad programs—and limited cash awards for athletes who do well in the classroom.athletes’ ability to be paidA wave of state laws allowing athletes to earn money from the use of their name, image and likeness are set to come into effect July 1.

After years of resistance, the NCAA pledged to put in place its own reworked rules in time for the new school year. But the organization has twice delayed setting those new rules and indicated that it would await a decision from the Supreme Court before proceeding. The organization is due to meet this week, and will now have to make those rules within the new parameters established by the court’s decision.

Meanwhile, federal legislation sought by the NCAA to override a patchwork of state laws has also not materialized, and some lawmakers have said they were pessimistic that it will appear until the impact of the different state laws becomes pronounced.

The extra money they earn should be grade based. They need to perform in the classroom as well to benefit at all later in life

what's the title 9 impact...equal benefits?

Talk about something that needs to be cancelled!!! NCAA should be number 1

good

Look NCAA, you know you're fucking up when a conservative majority Scotus makes a unanimous decision goes against you

Get your 1099 ready! Better have a good tax attorney & with NIL that is not a sports agent. Remember the IRS always gets paid!

I’m glad you picked the best school in the world for the headline cover wvu

This ruling is presumed to further incentivize good academic performance as schools can now offer additional, education-related, compensation. How do you feel this will play out in today's NCAA landscape?

Let the athletes earn whatever the market says their skill set is worth. Just like the coaches. Just like the video game makers. Just like any media platform that makes money from their free labor.

About time these “Pro” players receive some form of compensation for their hard work and the universities share the wealth! The NCAA and colleges have been screwing these players or too long!

Finally “ All those White Owned and run by -The Rich white people , whom by the way why All that T.V 💴Money from All the Black Athletics 💵💵💵💵💰💰💰💰 . Funny No more -White folks - it’s time They Athlete gets paid ..🍭🤪🥳💰

Cool. Maybe, people will choose a college based on something than it being their favorite sports team as colleges find reasons to shift away from a heavy sports reliance.

Woah-

And boom goes the dynamite.

Supreme Court Signals Expansion of Religious Exemptions From LawsThree conservative justices argued that it was time to overrule a 1990 precedent holding that religious believers can’t invoke the First Amendment to exempt themselves from neutral laws that apply to the public at large I thought Pastafarians kind of put the kibosh on this sort of religion favoring foolishness. When given a Lemon Test you should make lemonade, not vinegar. Well we already live in a very liberal society where as a biological man can claim that he believes himself to be a woman, therefore it's ok for him to wear a dress and be referred to as a she, if this is acceptable surely religious conservative laws should be no objection?
