Supreme Court asked to allow West Virginia’s transgender athlete ban

Becky Pepper-Jackson has presented publicly as a girl since fourth grade, although her mother, Heather Jackson, said in court documents the child identified as a girl long before that. Her name has been legally changed. According to her brief, Becky “receives puberty-delaying treatment and estrogen hormone therapy, so has not experienced endogenous puberty.

“The Act makes the reasonable judgment that many have made before: Biological differences between males and females matter in sports,” Attorney General Patrick Morrisey . “Both Title IX and the Fourteenth Amendment allow that judgment.” U.S. District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin blocked the law from taking effect soon after the West Virginia legislature passed it, allowing Becky to try out for the teams. But seven months later, after full briefing, Goodwin concluded the law was constitutional and refused to extend his order while his decision was reviewed.

Goodwin said he agreed with Becky’s lawyers that “not one child has been or is likely to be harmed by B.P.J.’s continued participation on her middle school’s cross country and track teams.”Those lawyers appealed Goodwin’s decision to the U.S.

Logic goes out the window when emotions and superstition get in the way. If males have a physiological advantage then it doesn't matter if the person feels like a female they still have that advantage. If this is going to be ignored then it should be across the board, boxing too

Makes sense. Girls play on girls teams. Trans girls aka as boys play on boys teams.

Males can dress+identify however they want + play with the other males. Hormones do not reverse certain advantages of male puberty such as bigger lungs/hearts/hands/feet/bone structure/ height. We separate sports by bio sex + not who likes dresses/ lipstick for a reason.

This male girl would not be prohibited from participating in athletics. She/he would just be required to compete with other males with whom he/she would not have a competitive advantage.

Keep sports separated based on gender. That means girls should not be allowed to be on boys' teams. It is time for boys to be boys and girls to be girls.

They've, quite rightly, banned males pretending to be female from entering female sports which has cost real girls their scholarships and has negatively impacted the careers of actual female athletes. Women (xx) define womanhood. Not males (xy) pretending to be female.

Hopefully, the high court will be wise enough to grant the request of West Virginia. Transgenders do have an advantage in sports.
