Thanks to Ed Johnson, Enterprise High School Class of 1966/Wildcat Marching Band President 1965-66, whose recent gifts of relics provided another chance to revisit St. Petersburg, Florida’s Festival of States, sorta timely because the 2023-24 Big Blue Marching Band shortly heads to Washington, D.C.’s Cherry Blossom Festival Parade.

People are also reading… The late David Mitchell, 1964-65 band president, forever remembered that day because his lips stuck to his trumpet … after he finished playing a song ...Besides 15 of us eighth-graders, another newcomer to the band was a senior female clarinetist who’d recently moved here from Huntsville.

After weeks of practice, we’d perfected the turn procedure and hadn’t had a misstep collision for several Sunday afternoon-long marathon rehearsals.
