Law enforcement and others gather to honor peace officers who died in the line of duty at the 36th Ohio Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony in London, Ohio . May 2, 2024. "Today is a day of remembrance and profound sadness. There is no need to mask our pain—we all feel it," Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said.

Law enforcement from around the state and members of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission gathered in London, Ohio, to remember peace officers who lost their lives in the line of duty between 2020 and 2023, plus a historical honoree.Deputy Joshua I. Hamilton, Preble County Sheriff’s OfficeDeputy Terrance N. Bateman, Franklin County Sheriff’s OfficeOfficer Anthony E. Cloyd, University of Dayton Department of Public SafetyOfficer Gerald F.

Thirty-two black granite panels adorn the memorial, engraved with the names of 836 peace officers going back to 1832."The thin blue line that connects our work—wherever that work is done—connects our hearts too," said Yost. "To all of you, I offer this thought. Your loved one's life meant more, had a greater impact, is a greater legacy than many who carry on for decades longer."
