Starbucks was dealt a setback Tuesday when a federal labor authority ruled that the tallying of ballots can move ahead in a worker vote on unionizing three of the company’s cafes

was dealt a setback Tuesday after a federal labor authority ruled that the tallying of ballots can move ahead in a worker vote on unionizing three of the company’s cafes.

The National Labor Relations Board, which is overseeing the election, on Tuesday struck down an appeal filed by Starbucks as to the vote’s structure. Starbucks had appealed to the NLRB to have all 19 stores in the Buffalo market vote on whether to unionize, not individual locations as has been Workers United’s wish.

Workers supporting the proposed Starbucks Workers United union say they are looking for better staffing, training and pay, particularly for employees who have been with the company for years. They also want the right to directly negotiate their pay and benefits with the company. Across the U.S., workers in manufacturing, food processing, e-commerce and other sectors this year have pushed for higher wages and expanded benefits as companies grapple with what executives have called a nationwideAsked about the broader relationship between companies and workers, Mr. Johnson said the union issue is among many brought to the forefront during the pandemic, along with racial inequality and inflation. “This is a national dialogue and certainly, Starbucks is not immune,” he said.

Howard Schultz, who built Starbucks from a handful of locations to a global coffee giant, last month held an hour-long meeting with Buffalo workers that spanned the chain’s roots to its current employee benefits. Mr. Schultz said in a letter to workers following the visit that he was saddened to think that workers felt they needed a representative to obtain what they needed from the company.

And by “us”he means management and shareholders

Unionized employees always get more. Don't buy the management lies.

1/After HyperCapSoc, people will retire. Unions must accept their directive will be to lobby indiscriminately for the acceleration of the roboticization of varying positions without the necessary insight into what should unarguably be, fundamentally, a Business Strategy...

Us = management.

If they join a Union, will the high wages, pension and premium healthcare be reduced?

Unions are legal and they came to be to protect the interests of the employees. Wishful thinking to assume they are no longer relevant. Any organization that’s trying to undermine unions by squashing drives has something to hide that’s not in the best interest of its employees!

Sorry if the Union will make Kevin Johnson improve benefits and working conditions for his employees!!!!

Awwwww....Starbucks afraid of paying a fair wage, paid family leave, full Healthcare - all of which is NOT happening now. Outside of the Dollar Tree rolling back incentives for their mandatory 50 hours a week Managers....Starbucks is despicable.

And by 'us' he means shareholders.

Unionizing IS NOT undermining anything except Corporate greed and exploitation.

Employers who respect their employees have nothing to fear from employees joining a union. A Union gives employees a collective voice.

No, Evolution is Not RandomThe widespread assumption that evolution occurs by chance or accident is wrong. Here's why, explains LaithAlShawaf LaithAlShawaf You are correct that mutation is random and natural selection is not, BUT, if evolution is made of both steps as you say, only ONE needs to be random for the entire process of evolution to still be defined as random. This is one of the precepts of scientific randomized trials.
