Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson says labor-organizing efforts at some of the chain’s cafes undermine a relationship with employees 'that has served us so well for decades'

. The company has already moved to address concerns raised by the baristas in Buffalo, pledging better wages and increased staffing, he said.

The National Labor Relations Board, which is overseeing the election, still must decide on an appeal filed by Starbucks as to the vote’s structure. Depending on that outcome, the NLRB could tally the votes on Thursday. “One of the values that Starbucks has as its core mission and value statement is challenging the status quo, and that’s what we’re doing to try to make things better,” said Michelle Eisen, a Buffalo barista who is helping organize the union.

Starbucks baristas discussing unionization efforts with an adviser in Buffalo, N.Y., at the end of October. In Buffalo, Starbucks executives have spent weeks urging workers to vote against the union, saying the company is listening and responding to their concerns. Executives have written to and met with Buffalo workers, and recorded a video advising workers on the voting process.

Mr. Johnson hasn’t publicly addressed workers in Buffalo, but said Monday that he had been involved in matters there while also balancing the concerns of the chain’s more than 80 other markets. He said the‘There is more to do as we continue to adapt to a long-term Covid reality.’In a letter scheduled to be sent to baristas Tuesday, Mr. Johnson said he respected the labor-organizing process but questioned the vote’s structure.

HAS SERVED US

Slave wages are all the rage amongst billionaire CEOs. Why fix what is broken?

Lmao

It's definitely served him. The employees? Not so much.

The issue with what he said is who the 'us'is and the pronoun does not include the workers.

If the relationship has led to the workers trying to unionize, then I don't think it was really serving them well.

this relationship?

the corporate trowing mud at the unions!

Unions will destroy the company. Serving coffee is not supposed to be a career. It’s a job.

Fuck the anti union sentiment. Workers are stronger when they come together.

Of COURSE he did

Stick with the company so I can make $15 mil a year

A relationship of unequal power and worker subservience

If the relationship had served the employees so well, they wouldn't be compelled to unionize. Pay people living wages, scummy exploiters

so the starbucks millionaire is a union hating robber baron , that's shocking

You were lucky.
