Locarno was expelled from Starfleet Academy in the TNG season 5 episode, "The First Duty," but Lower Decks season 4, episode 9 dropped the bombshell that Lt. Beckett Mariner knew Locarno and was best friends with another member of Nova Squadron, Ensign Sito Jaxa .
