A government minister in Spain has proposed 16 and 17-year-olds should be allowed to have an abortion without their parents' consent, a move that would repeal legislation in place for the past five years.
In legislation adopted in 2015 when the People's Party was in power, the abortion law mandated parental consent for those aged 16 and 17, in essence meaning the parents had the final say over whether their pregnant child had a termination. Spain's Equality Minister, Irene Montero, is pictured on July 01, 2020 in San Sebastian, Spain. She has proposed changing the law and allowing abortion for girls up to 17 years old without parental consent."Our bodies are ours, we decide," said Montero, adding that she wanted"the right of all women to decide about their bodies and we demand a freely decided motherhood and above all a full and free sexual life.
They should insist on compulsory vasectomies for men who oppose abortion rights.
They would not push for this unless their is a problem with teen pregnancy and the girls resorting to quack doctors. USSR offered safe abortions in hospitals because too many women died trying on their own.
Spain? A Catholic nation right?
😏- push for better sexual education in schools?
16 and 17 year olds are known for making great decisions. If they can make this choice alone, they should be able to make choices to join the army, vote, drink alcohol, etc. Are they grown ups or not?
