Pet Sematary: Bloodlines adapts Jud Crandall's story-within-a-story about Timmy Baterman's resurrection, but makes some big changes to King's version.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary In providing an origin story to the Stephen King character Jud Crandall, Paramount+’s Pet Sematary: Bloodlines retcons an important event from the 1983 book involving Timmy Baterman. While Jud Crandall is the primary focus in Pet Sematary: Bloodlines’ cast and characters, the 2023 prequel movie is actually an adaptation of a story-within-a-story from Stephen King’s novel.

In Stephen King’s Pet Sematary book, Jud tells Louis Creed that a local Ludlow boy named Timmy Baterman was killed in action during World War II, with the entire town paying respects at his funeral. However, two weeks later, a young Jud saw Timmy walking down the street and acting strangely, revealing that Timmy knew secrets that everyone wanted hidden.

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines Reveals Timmy Wasn't The Only One Resurrected After The War While Pet Sematary: Bloodlines understandably changes the timeline from King’s book to align with the 2019 Pet Sematary movie, such as Timmy being a Vietnam War veteran instead of a World War II veteran, there are some much bigger creative liberties taken by the 2023 prequel.

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines Changes Timmy's Death From Stephen King's Book Pet Sematary: Bloodlines’ Timmy Baterman story also includes massive changes to the manner of his second death. Stephen King’s book reveals that Timmy died when Bill fatally shot his reanimated son and burned down his house, seemingly with just the Baterman family being involved in their own demises.

In the prequel, Bill Baterman does ultimately shoot himself and Timmy, but he tells Jud and the other Ludlow residents to burn the house down with them inside. Pet Sematary: Bloodlines thus retcons Jud’s role in Timmy’s death to be far more involved, with the fire having been set by himself and his friends.
