Amid deteriorating conditions in migrant camps on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border, U.S. authorities on Wednesday tried to deal with thousands of the mostly Haitian migrants that have gathered, releasing some in south Texas while deporting others on flights.

Wade McMullen, an attorney with the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organization said several hundred people, mostly pregnant women and parents with children, had been released in Del Rio, Texas over the past several days, straining resources at a local volunteer-run welcome center. The center does not have overnight capacity, he said.

Live Updates: U.S. border crisis deepens as 'very, very large' number of Haitian migrants releasedThe crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border is deepening as thousands of Haitian migrants, many waiting in inhumane conditions, attempt to cross into the country. Follow Newsweek's liveblog for the latest. Since the mid-1970s the U.S. Border Patrol have apprehended at least 1M migrants per year. That's over 46 years & 10 Presidents later without any serious attempt to solve it, raising the question: Why, are migrants just simply a source for convenient scapegoating and cheap labor? The persistent immigration issues will continue to be a challenge in the near future & may even worsen. If & until the root causes are solved, the US should build Ellis Island like centers along our southern border to provide full & complete processing in a humane/orderly manner. Clearly, border walls & deportations don't work. People faced with desperate conditions will use their feet & go through hell to get to the other side, el otro lado. So, how do you end a seemingly unstoppable human migration? Solve their reasons for coming; lead from the heart.

Many Haitian migrants camped in Texas border town being released in U.S., officials sayMany Haitian migrants camped in a small Texas border town are being released in the US, two officials say, undercutting the Biden admin.'s public statements that the thousands in the camp faced immediate expulsion. NO WAY !!! IF THEY WERE BLOND, BLUE-EYED EUROPEANS THEY WOULD NOT BE TREATED IN THIS MANNER !!!! RACISM & BIGOTRY IS BLATANT, APPARENT!!! No background checks. No medical exams. They're not taking names or tracking their movements. It really takes your breath away. Not clear on how this undercuts anything. If many of the Haitians are going to facilties elsewhere & can apply for asylum & go through the legal system, that sounds more like a solution. What I'd like to know more about is the criteria for those being immediately deported.
