Snapchat to stop promoting President Trump's account in Discover tab

Snapchat said it will stop promoting President Donald Trump's account on its Discover tab, as social media platforms weigh how to respond to posts that may go against their policies.

In a statement obtained by USA TODAY, Snapchat parent company Snap confirmed that it would no longer promote the president's content. "We will not amplify voices who incite racial violence and injustice by giving them free promotion on Discover," Snap said in its statement."Racial violence and injustice have no place in our society and we stand together with all who seek peace, love, equality, and justice in America."The app's Discover tab features stories from publishers, creators and popular Snapchat accounts, some of which is moderated by Snapchat.

On Sunday, Snap CEO Evan Speigel sent a memo to employees saying the platform"simply cannot promote accounts in America that are linked to people who incite racial violence, whether they do so on or off our platform."
