While I don't think Black Panther is exactly Best Picture worthy, they definitely deserve the Oscar for Costume and Production Design. They clearly had a ton of thought put into them and it paid off.
Does it cover why a peaceful isolationist nation chooses its leaders through 'trial by combat'?
I hope she and Ruth Carter (costumes) both win. Their work really made Wakanda and the BlackPanther movie as a whole, such an amazing visual experience.
The people of Wakanda are wonderfully nationalistic, as they should be, as we should be. America first.

Movie Wakandans use neck-rings; historic rings are bad: rings break the neck, & hold it in place: if one removes them, they die; rings also reduce mobility: looks like a female control device to me, like ancient China's bound feet, or today's high heels; I'd not honor neck rings.
