The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency's board of directors said they would use 'our full imagination for reinventing Valencia Street'

Despite legal claims from businesses against The City, transportation officials said the center bike lane on Valencia Street will stick around for the rest of the year as they consider the best final design for the corridor.

SFMTA Director Jeffrey Tumlin said community feedback would be crucial as the agency continues to refine the current design. Tumlin said that the community members near Valencia Street need to be included in revamping the space, particularly to ensure that their short-term needs are met. Three businesses filed claims against The City over the bike lane this past week, alleging that its creation violated their constitutional rights and San Francisco’s own charter.

The VCMA expressed concerns about the proposed side-running bike lane, citing fears of conflicts between customers, vendors and cyclists over who has access to the space, as well as the loss of customer parking.
