Both the Giants and the A’s learned when the original first week of games will now be played on Wednesday, as Major League Baseball announced the dates of games originally shifted because of the league-imposed lockout.
Each team had three games from its four-game opening series shifted to the end of the season on Oct. 3-5, meaning the Giants will now finish with three games in San Diego and the A’s will host the Angels. The Giants will make up the extra game at the Padres on Thursday, July 7, which was originally an off-day ahead of a three-game series in San Diego. They also will make up their three-game series in Milwaukee entirely across two days: one game on Monday, April 25 and a doubleheader on Thursday, Sept. 8 — a quick trip in between series at the Dodgers and Cubs.
Meanwhile, the A’s are squeezing their extra game against the Angels in as a day-night doubleheader on Saturday, May 14. But because of scheduling conflicts, one of the three games against the Tigers will now be played in Detroit as an A’s “home” game on Tuesday, May 10. The other two games will be played in Oakland as a doubleheader on Thursday, July 21 — the Thursday of the All-Star break.
The schedule disruptions also mean that, for the first time since 2009, the Giants will start their season at home and the A’s will open up on the road. The Giants will also end the regular season on the road for the first time since 2012, when they played at Dodger Stadium for three games against their rivals ahead of the postseason.
