SEATTLE —where migrant families have been staying, and on Friday they packed up and headed to other motels in SeaTac.
On Friday morning, those families were packing up and loading into vans after Seattle and the general manager were unable to agree on contract terms for the stay. Seattle Deputy Mayor Tiffany Washington said Eli Man, the general manager at Quality Inn, wanted to be paid two months in advance. Washington said Seattle is prohibited from using taxpayer money unless services are rendered, so paying in advance was not possible.
KOMO News tried to reach out to Man again on Friday, but motel staff said he was unavailable to comment. Washington said Man posted eviction notices on the doors where the families were staying, even though the owner had been paid in full through 11 a.m. on Friday. Washington also said that misinformation was being spread to the families, telling them that Seattle refused to pay for the rooms and they were being evicted.
