A few dozen people remain at an encampment for asylum seekers and refugees at a Seattle park where officials have now posted notices advising the area will be cleared later this week.
Seattle city leadership has said repeatedly that the city is not in a financial position to pay for long-term housing for migrants and refugees. Javier, a migrant who moved from the park to the Quality Inn, told KOMO News that people are uncertain how long they’ll be staying indoors and if they may have to move back to a park in the future.
The migrants are hoping to stop the cycle of going from the hotel in Kent to parks in Seattle, but moving the families back to the hotel has potentially created issues for single adult men who say they fear they will lose their rooms there.
