El sábado se cumplieron 50 años de que el cuarteto sueco ABBA triunfó en el Festival de la Canción de Eurovisión de 1974 con la alegre canción de amor “Waterloo”. La melodía volvió a sonar el sábado en la estación de tren Waterloo de Londres —que también lleva el nombre de la batalla de 1815 que supuso la derrota de Napoleón— donde un coro cantó para los viajeros.

En un mensaje de agradecimiento a los fans el sábado, los cuatro miembros de la banda dijeron que era “un poco vertiginoso y profundamente aleccionador” saber que sus canciones se habían transmitido de generación en generación y “todavía resuenan en todo el mundo”. La final de Eurovisión de este año tendrá lugar el 11 de mayo en Malmö, después de que la cantante sueca Loreen ganó la competición el año pasado con “Tattoo”.
