Scott Smith, an electronics technician, is a prominent advocate for the right to repair in Saskatchewan. Smith said tools that manufacturers sell to work on equipment don’t give farmers full access to resets that are needed after a repair job, which forces them to work with dealers to fully repair their machines.

Two federal bills in Canada could address these issues: One by Cypress Hills—Grasslands MP Jeremy Patzer aims to address interoperability; another by Vancouver-area MP Wilson Miao covers blanket right to repair concerns.
